About Us

Mike and Angie Johnson formed Reece Kennels 13 years, when we retained our first German Wirehaired Pointers and fell in love with this truly versatile breed. We started with two boys and now have 8 GWP's. At Reece Kennels we only breed German Wirehaired Pointers (GWP's) so we can focus on correct breed type & conformation, good temperament, natural working ability and an all around versatile & hard working dog. Reece  Kennel strives to breed dogs that have all their health certificates and are tested to be health certified free of hip & elbow dysplasia, thyroid, cardiac and CERF by the Orthopedic Foundation for Animals (OFFA). Our GWP puppies are properly socialized, introduced to birds & water and at 7-8 weeks of age, we conduct the Volhard Puppy Aptitude test and conformation evaluations. Our main goal is to provide dogs that are very versatile and that make great family pets and companions.

One area where we give a lot of importance is the health of this breed. We are supporters of the Canine Health Information Center (CHIC) and have several dogs that are CHIC certified. Being CHIC certified means that these dogs have participated in all the health screenings that the German Wirehaired Pointer Club of America (GWPCA) suggest before breeding. We have also participated in several GWPCA events towards improving the health of this breed.

Mike and Angie are very involved with numerous GWP and hunting organizations. We are active members of the GWPCA where Angie is on the Board of Directors as the Eastern Director, she also volunteers her time to work on the clubs website and communications to the membership. We are also members of the Suncoast GWP Club of Mid Florida where Angie and Mike are founding members and Angie is the current Secretary. We also belong to NAVHDA International and Central Florida Field Trialers (CFFT) where we do our field training and finally Angie is a member of the Imperial Polk Obedience Club where she is an agility instructor.

Reece Kennels sits on 3 acres in Polk City near Lakeland Fl.. The property is a large barn with living quarters upstairs, three offices downstairs and three stables. The property was originally used for horses but we converted two of the stables into four indoor/outdoor dog kennels. The property is entirely fenced in with special sections for training in Agility and Obedience. Our puppies are born and raised in Angie's office where they have access to the outside when they are old enough. We encourage puppy owners to come visit the puppies when they are between 4-5 weeks and thereafter.
